Unmasking the Permanent Government: Obama, Brennan, and the Deep State Playbook

When people hear “deep state,” they either roll their eyes or lean in. But regardless of where you fall on the spectrum, one thing is clear: beneath the surface of American democracy lies a bureaucratic fortress of intelligence agencies, defense contractors, and unelected elites who often operate outside — or above — democratic control. The case of Obama-era intelligence chief John Brennan offers a particularly unsettling window into this power structure.

Obama’s Firewall: John Brennan and the Rise of Technocratic Surveillance

John Brennan, former CIA Director and National Security Advisor, wasn’t just a behind-the-scenes technocrat. The now-infamous 2016–2017 “Russia collusion” narrative — amplified by leaks, innuendo, and selectively declassified documents — became a masterclass in institutional gaslighting.

This wasn’t about protecting democracy; it was about controlling the narrative. The intelligence community — and Brennan in particular — took advantage of a media
